WHAT IS PILATES?
Pilates is a UNIQUE form of exercise, developed by Joseph Pilates, which emphasizes the balanced development of the entire body through core strength, flexibility and full body awareness. Pilates creates long, lean muscles that are flexible and fully in your control as a practitioner.
WHO CAN DO PILATES?
Everyone! One of the wonderful things about the classical Pilates method is that it can be adapted for complete exercise beginners, seniors, post pregnant woman, those coming back from injury, Olympic athletes and dancers and more. A fully certified instructor should be able to help anyone gain strength, control and flexibility.
WHAT ARE THE SIX “PILATES PRINCIPLES?”
Centering, Control, Flow, Breath, Precision, and Concentration: These principals are essential to any classical Pilates workout (whether in a mat class or on the equipment). In addition to these principals, Pilates focuses on Quality over Quantity. The focus is on few repetitions with great precision so that you can get results in less time AND work on the full body in one session.
